Human life is unpredictable and full of twists and turns. We expect things to work in our way. However, expectations may not be fulfilled at all points of time. The feeling can either be joyful or devastating. The human mind is designed to analyse, express emotions and come up with solutions. One such feeling that affects the time and situation of an individual is ‘disappointment’.
Disappointment is a feeling of sadness or displeasure caused when one’s hope or expectations aren’t fulfilled. This feeling is frequent in everyone’s lives, but the major element leading to disappointment is ‘expectations’. An individual expresses the feeling of expectation when they’re planning something big in their lives. For eg., a boy asks for an expensive item and the parent immediately agrees and gives a timeline of 3 months. However, due to some circumstances, the parent fails to buy it for his or her child.
It’s certain that the child was disappointed as the parent was unable to fulfil their promise of buying that item for their child. Promises lead to expectations and these may lead to disappointment, if they aren’t fulfilled by the individual. One of the important things one should consider is keeping their expectations low. This comes with a lot of practice and patience which can be achieved if we are focussed on our goals.
To conclude, disappointment is a feeling which cannot escape the human mind. However, you can reduce the extent of the feeling by keeping your expectations low and make commitments only when you can fulfil them.
So true. We must be mindful not make empty promises and to always manage our expectations. The only certain expectation is we don't always get what was promised.
Less expectations more satisfaction 💕
